NetHui 2015 fellowships
InternetNZ and APNIC are pleased to announce that fellowships to attend NetHui 2015 at Sky City, Auckland, 8-10 July.

What’s on offer
There are two fellowships on offer:
- a general fellowship
- a Pacific Islands fellowship.
The purpose of these is to help New Zealand’s and the Pacific Islands’ Internet Communities take part in NetHui 2015, to:
- contribute to the shaping of the Internet’s future
- gain expertise and experience which will benefit the Internet Community and the development of the Internet.
General fellowship
The general fellowship is available to people who live in New Zealand.
It can help you pay for travel, accommodation or other expenses. Fellowships also include a free registration. You can also apply only for help with registration costs only.
There is $10,000 available overall.
Pacific Islands fellowship
The Pacific Islands fellowship is available to people who live in the Pacific Islands region.
It can help you pay for travel, accommodation or other expenses. Fellowships also include a free registration. You can also apply only for help with registration costs only.
There is $15,000 available overall.
Timeline
Applications open: 10 June 2014.
Applications close: 18 June 2014.
Decision announced: Week of 22 June 2014.
Decision process and criteria
A panel of sponsors will assess applications against the decision criteria below, based on the answers applicants give in their application form.
They will also take these 2 points into consideration:
- the fellowship program seeks to enable diverse participation from otherwise under-represented groups in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands
- first time NetHui attendees may be prioritised.
Decision criteria
a. Alignment with purpose
This is about how well the applicant’s attendance matches the purpose of the fellowship. Applicants should:
- explain any engagement you have with the broader Internet community and/or Internet issues
- explain how coming to NetHui would help contribute to community goals and objectives.
b. Potential benefit
The committee will look at how coming to NetHui could benefit the applicant and Internet community, and considerations like value for money.Applicants should:
- explain what benefits and outcomes you think you’ll get from coming to NetHui.
- these could include contributing to the discussion on a specific issue, engaging with part of the community before and after the event, etc.
- say if you have any confirmed roles at NetHui (for example, as a facilitator)
- say if you’ve been involved at the global Interne
t Governance Forum or regional initiatives.
c. Likelihood of benefit
The committee will look at how likely it is that applicants will get the benefits and outcomes they want from NetHui.Applicants should:
- briefly describe your experience and qualifications
- how the experience and qualifications will contribute to the potential benefits of coming to NetHui.
- note: the committee prefers it when applicants have appropriate experience and expertise, but they also value the opportunity togrow and develop experience.
- give details for any other support they have to come to NetHui 2015.
- this includes any co-funding or in-kind backing from others. and whether it’s confirmed or conditional.
Funding limits
There is no funding limit for applications but value for money is considered in the criteria. InternetNZ reserves the right to offer partial funding.
