Collaborative notes for the Govt 2.0: Digital by default session
In July 2013 the Government set 10 challenging results for the public sector to achieve over the next five years. Result 9 is seeking to make it easier for businesses to deal with government, and Result 10 seeks to enable New Zealanders to complete their transactions with government easily in a digital environment. So what does this look like for the average New Zealander?
Citizens interact with government in different kinds of ways, including:
- service delivery – where a single individual (or business) interacts with one or more government agencies about their obligations or entitlements
- decision making – where several citizens might have competing views or needs that need to be taken into account before a decision is made (e.g. regulatory consent applications)
- policy formulation – where citizens, organisations and special interest groups engage with government agencies about new policies or regulations through consultation and submission processes.
In this session we will briefly look at some examples of how government is going digital, before breaking out into group discussions to discuss how this is working in practice at the moment and share ideas about what government could do in future.

Collaborative notes for the Domains: growth, change, transition session
A huge year for Internet domain names with the US Government trying to exit its traditional stewardship of IANA and the root zone, the number of top level domains has increased to just over 1,000, .nz has opened up the second level for registrations, over 50 TLDs are now available in non English (ASCII) scripts and debate continues over what sort of information should be made publicly available about holders of domain names.
What will replace the US Government as the steward of IANA? How many new TLDs will prosper? Did you register a .nz name direct at the second level? All these questions and possibly some answers during this session.
