Nearly 10 million people across 193 countries have taken part in over 46 million actions on Avaaz since it’s inception in 2007, and why not? Sites like Avaaz make it dead easy to take ‘action’. Find something that mildly interests you, add your email address, and you’re done. In fact, if you can’t find anything that you feel strongly enough to add your name to, simply click another button and create your own to target the decision maker of your choice. ?
But does it work? ?

Government 3.0 – government as an API
Collaborative notes for the Government 3.0: Democratic API session
If you had the opportunity to redesign local government from the ground up in the age of the internet, what would it look like?
In the age of cloud computing and big data, the ‘smart cities’ discussion is moving from away from the optimisation of the infrastructure and services of an industrial city. Recently the conversation has moved towards the idea of ‘government as a platform’, with a greater focus on user-centered design, collaborative partnerships and participatory societies.
After briefly looking at some examples of innovative approaches to re-imagining how cities and governments work, we will explore how this might be done using a real world scenario.
Featuring Rachel Prosser.
